Contemporary artist Vince Caruana is featuring his latest collection of contemporary landscapes at Gallery G, in his fourth solo exhibition Diagnosis: decoding an island’s identity.

The artist’s varied impressions, constructed of transparent overlapping geometrical planes, rise up to form an architecture that continues into a similarly constructed atmosphere, with light pouring through them as if through a series of gauzy veils. The works exhibited depict the interface between the actual Maltese landscape and the artist-created landscape, bridging the traditional and contemporary representation. Caruana’s luminous landscapes combine a palette of vibrant colours, light and composition with painting elegance.

Caruana is an MA graduate in Visual Arts from the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence. He earlier studied arts at the Malta Schools of Arts and the Scranton College of Arts of Pennsylvania (USA). Despite his relatively young age, Caruana has exhibited both locally and internationally, and his works are included in numerous private and public collections.

Most recently, four of his paintings were commissioned to be reproduced as limited edition print runs by one of Malta’s leading mobile phone companies.

The exhibition opens this evening and continues until 4 May. Gallery G exhibition halls and shop are located at 4 Sir Ugo Mifsud Street, Lija and the opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
