The National Commission for People with Disability has filed a judicial protest against the Education Division over the administration of medicine to disabled children at state schools.

In a statement, the KNPD said that there is no clear policy on the matter and as a result, disabled children are not being given their medicine while at school. It said that discussions with the Education Division began in March 2002 but to no avail because, even after the setting up of a working group to look into the matter, no policy had been drawn up and implemented. As a result, the commission said, disabled children are not having equal access to the National Minimum Curriculum as other students. It said this amounted to discrimination against students with disability and it therefore called on the Education Division to find a solution to the matter immediately. The commission said it is still hoping that an out-of-court agreement can be reached.
