Tyrone Grima is a teacher of French and Drama and director of Theatrencore, which aims to promote France and its culture through theatre. He has written and produced Shadows and Gods which will be held at St James Cavalier on 27, 28 and 29 April. This play is original and investigates the rapport between the life of the serial killer Henri Pranzini and the religious Thérèse Martin. Henri Pranzini was executed after having murdered his lover – the rich and famous Régine de Montille, her young daughter and her maid. In spite of the fact that the two never met, the lives of Thérèse and Pranzini overlap as she discovers the monster in herself on her journey to sainthood and he accepts the hero in himself on his journey to the guillotine.

Last year, Tyrone directed and produced Une vie, la vie, sa vie a French play about Guy de Maupassant by theatre@lliance, a theatre group formerly of the Alliance Française de Malte.

What would you like to be doing in 10 years' time?

Theatre… teaching… writing… work in a third world country.

Being and accepting oneself.

Teaching.

Looking back as an old man and feeling that I have failed.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

Depth and empathy.

How would you like to die?

People do not believe me when I say this… knowing that I have six months of life so that I can accomplish my dreams.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I am not money minded… but on second thoughts, going to the airport now and taking a flight without having planned it.

What is your greatest regret?

Can I answer this question in a few years' time.

What is your most treasured possession?

My books, CDs, DVDs.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

Singing… if only I were more consistent when I attempt to strike notes.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Not being in touch with oneself.

Where would you like to live?

India… although I love living in Malta.

What is your most marked characteristic?

Being complex!

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

A whole spectrum… from Francis of Assisi to Spiderman.

Ignorance.
