This year the food and fireworks festivals have been combined to create one spectacular event. From 28 to 30 April, with the food festival beginning a day earlier, the

festival will not only include fireworks displays from Maltese companies as well as foreign, but also give people a chance to sample Maltese cuisine, all against the backdrop of the Grand Harbour, at the Valletta Waterfront.

So what will you find at the festival? All festivities will be spread over three different areas, each offering a different atmosphere. The Concert area will be jam-packed with live concerts over all three nights, including the Good Luck Olivia Concert, Olivia Lewis’ final concert before she goes to Helsinki to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. Olivia will be singing along with other well-known singers, including Mike Spiteri, Ludwig Galea, Glen Vella and Freddie Portelli, accompanied by the Big Band Brothers. Other nights will include concerts from popular bands Winter Moods and Bitterside.

The hilarious Zoo team will be presenting in the Concert area over the three nights. The tickets for the Concert area are a bargain at Lm5, with block tickets for the three nights at Lm13.

In the Folk area, one can enjoy an assortment of different groups and singers, including Benny and Tonia, Enzo Guzman, J. Anvil, Fabrizio and Aldo, and many more. This area is free of charge.

The Food Festival area will include something to entice everyone’s taste buds, typical Maltese cuisine, as well as foreign fare. This area is also free of charge.

This year, four fireworks factories will be competing for the trophy for the best pyro-musical display. These are the Mount Carmel Fireworks Factory of Zurrieq, the St Joseph Fireworks Factory of Ghaxaq, Design Fireworks International, from Austria, and The Yung-Feng Firecrackers and Fireworks Co. Ltd, all the way from China. Special guests include the Orzella Fireworks Company, from Italy, and the 2006 winners of the Malta International Fireworks Festival, St Mary Fireworks Company of Mqabba.

As you can see, this festival definitely has something for everyone, with groups and singers to everyone’s taste, an exciting visual display of fireworks, and of course, a delicious array of food.
