Garibaldi, Capuana, Rizzo – due italiani a Malta, un italo-maltese a Tunisi is the title of a new publication by Arnold Cassola that has just been published by the Camera dei Deputati in Rome.

Judge Giovanni Bonello, Ambassador Trabalza and Dr Di Marco will review the book on Friday at 7pm at the Italian Cultural Institute in Palace Square, Valletta. The general public is invited.

The first chapter of this booklet is about Giuseppe Garibaldi’s visit to Malta in 1864 and the far from positive reception the Italian “risogimento” hero was given by the Maltese language newspaper, Il Giurnal Malti.

The second chapter concerns the visit to Malta of the famous Sicilian writer Luigi Capuana in 1910, with an analysis of the literary works Capuana published in Maltese newspapers of the period.

The last chapter has been written by Italian researcher Costanza Ferrini and treats the works of Claude Rizzo, a contemporary French novelist of Maltese origin who spent his childhood in Tunis among the Maltese and Italian communities living in the North African country.
