Practically all the European countries have accepted divorce even where the majority are Catholics, but here in Malta the Church, and even the government, leaves us no option. Time has proved that a couple’s marriage can go wrong even though they were married in church, so I cannot understand why the Church keeps on insisting about this blessed sacrament being stopped, and give the couple another chance in their very short life on this planet, to re-marry. My God, why does the Church have to dictate how we live our private lives? Why cannot we live freely and decide for ourselves what is best for us? When is this interference in our private life going to stop? We are not living in the Middle Ages; we are living in a very different world, even from the way we used to live back in the 1990s.
Today the word euthanasia is being heard and here again the Church wants to dictate that we should suffer till we take our last breath on this earth. What right have they got to stop a human being with a terminal or incurable illness from ending his own life in a painless way. I have seen several people on their deathbeds; one cannot bear the pain and agony. Sometimes it takes months, and even years, and it is a living hell not only for them but also for their family and friends.
Sometimes I wonder why we have to be dictated to by a handful of human beings that are so backwards in this world we are living in today. What good is being achieved by keeping a person suffering terrible pain.
Recently, a priest testified in favour of a judge in a drug scandal. It’s crystal clear that this priest wanted, with his testimony, to tell the court what a good family man his friend was, without mentioning those innocent people who were victims of drug trafficking.
My dear priest, next time, instead of taking the witness stand to defend your dear friend, it would be better to help all those families who lost their dear ones to drug abuse.
Lastly, I want the local Catholic authorities to be aware that such testimony has caused more damage to our local Church.
