Over the weekend Marsa CC played against two different schools’ teams from England.
On Saturday they played against Harrow School who were on their eighth tour to the island.
Marsa won the toss and elected to field first. Three players made 50s, Northeast made 68 runs, W.Jones 63 runs and R.Taylor 74 runs not out.
G. Prett made 44 runs and S. Davidson 28. The school totalled a massive score of 335 runs fof their allotted 50 overs.
For Marsa Stuart Thompson and Sam Dhandapani managed to take two wickets each. The Marsa reply was feeble with Nowell Khosla top scoring with 36 runs. Mike Smith scored 22 runs and Sam Dhandapani 18. Marsa only managed 145 runs losing by 190 runs. For the visitors D.Ballance, W.Spencer and W.Denham took two wickets each.
On Sunday Marsa played against Hurspierpoint School who are on their second tour. Their previous tour was in 2001. Winning the toss they elected to bat.
A fine partnership between T. Carr and J. Thompson of a 117 runs put the tourist in a good position. The tourists ended making 206 runs in their allotted 40 overs.
For Marsa, four bowlers took a wicket each. The Marsa batsmen were confident of making the required score. Nowell Khosla made 45 runs, Stuart Thompson 25, Sarfraz Ali 26 and Mike Caruana 26. This was not enough and Marsa were bowled out for 182 runs. For the tourists the main wicket taker was A.Deck who took four.
The Previous Thursday Marsa played the first game against Hurspierpoint School. The Marsa batsmen could only make 133 runs with John Grima top scoring with 48 runs.
For the tourists C. Matthews took three wickets. The tourists made the runs in the 29th over with S. Voller scoring 54 runs and T. Carr 28 runs. Martin Llewlyn was Marsa’s most successful bowler with two wickets. Marsa lost the series two to nil.
This coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday Marsa take on Trent College, also from England. The Friday game will be a 20/20 game starting at 1pm. The weekend games will start at 10am.
