Four Maltese art students – Kristina Borg, Ian Coleiro, Lucienne Lughermo and Adrian Scicluna – are participating in the Goldener Kentaur award, organised by the Munich House of Artists which, in cooperation with the Munich Academy of Art and the Helsinki University of Art and Design, has invited one academy in each European country to submit four of their students’ works to Munich.

The four students are under the guidance of Dr Raphael Vella. All works of art will be exhibited for the public in Munich.

The Golden Kentaur award will be presented to the winner in a ceremony on 23 April in Munich by the patron, Bavarian Minister of Science, Research and Art Dr Thomas Goppel.

As the flights for the four students from the University of Malta participating in the event were not covered by the organisers, the Embassy of Malta in Berlin took the initiative and asked Lufthansa Technik for help. Director of international communications of Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg, Aage Dünhaupt, reacted immediately and arranged sponsoring for the tickets for the Maltese students.

Lufthansa Technik has been cooperating successfully with Malta International Airport since 2003, and its subsidiary in Malta has been performing C-checks on small A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft. Lufthansa Technik has recently announced plans to make a new investment in Malta of up to e60 million on new aircraft maintenance facilities to handle large Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft.

The facility, which should be opened in 2008, will eventually create 550 new jobs, according to Lufthansa Technik.
