GWU To meet PM

Malta Independent Wednesday, 18 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The GWU is to hold a meeting with the Prime Minister in which it will explain the rationale behind a document on security drawn up by its professional, finance and services section. A similar meeting is to be held with the Opposition Leader.

The document is the result of discussions with employees in the security sector, where there are many problems regarding working conditions, including excessive hours, wages that are lower than the minimum allowed by law and the pressures of the job.

The union said it has taken various initiatives to reduce the employees’ exploitation and it was also calling for the revocation of the legal notice that denied employees pro-rata benefits if they did not work more than 20 hours a week.
