Labour leader Alfred Sant toured Palazzo Falson in Mdina yesterday, which has been the subject of an extensive restoration programme by Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti over the past five years, with the help of

benefactors.

Dr Sant was accompanied on his visit by party spokesman for the environment and the national heritage Roderick Galdes.

Foundation president Maurice de Giorgio pointed out that the palazzo, which had been the property of Olof Gollcher, a Swede, had been closed for over 40 years and had suffered serious deterioration, even to the extent that rainwater had found its way inside.

Mr de Giorgio was quoted in an MLP statement as saying that the Labour Party’s vision statement on the environment had a sound basis and dealt with many matters that were necessary for the protection of the country’s cultural heritage.
