The much awaited race for Masters at Marsascala is being held on Sunday 22 April.
The closing date for applications is next Monday. There will be no entries accepted after that date. All those taking part are urged to respect the regulations and the MAAA in order that the event canb be organized properly.
All those taking part who have also taken part in the road running league are to run with the same number and their times will count also for the league. The last leg of the league, on the same route, is to start at 8am. but will only count for the league, not for the Masters’ race.
These competitions are being run under the rules and regulations of the World Association of Veteran Athletes. This event is open to all men and women born on or before 22 April, 1972.
A commemorative medal will be presented to all those who finish the 10 K.
The race, which will be held over two identical laps, starts from opposite the Jerma Palace Hotel, Marsascala, and proceeds left towards St. Thomas Bay. The runners will then make their way towards the centre of the village, running along the fish-ponds. On reaching the central square, they are to go up the road and turn right into St. Anne Street towards the church. On reaching the church square they should turn left and go up La Sengle Road for the first two blocks then make a right turn into Buzbez Road and back towards the Church Square. From there they are to proceed along the sea promenade towards the Jerma Palace Hotel, where they will then start the second lap of the race. The finish will be in front of the Jerma Palace Hotel.
Handsome trophies and cash prizes will be presented to those male and female athletes who register the best technical performance.
Cash prizes, for both male and female athletes, will be presented as follows: Best technical performance: Lm30; 2nd best technical performance: Lm20; 3rd best technical performance: Lm15.
The best technical performance will be calculated by the Hy-Tek computer programme according to the age-graded tables compiled by the World Association of Veteran Athletes.
Trophies will also be given to the winner in each five year category, the runners up in every category where there are at least five finishers and a third prize where there are eight finishers.
