Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will be the major attraction in this year’s three-day football marathon being organised by the Puttinu Cares Children’s Support Group.
It is being held at the Marsa grounds between tomorrow and Sunday.
Buffon gladly accepted an invitation to form part of the team working hard to collect funds for such a noble cause – in aid of children suffering from cancer and who have to be sent abroad for treatment.
Buffon is expected to be at the Marsa grounds on Sunday for about 90 minutes.
Juventus Club Vero Amore, the local Supporters Club, helped a lot in bringing over such a famous world champion – he won the world title with Italy last year in the Germany finals – for this charitable activity.
The club’s president, Dr Michael Schriha, said yesterday the Juventus supporters club was in the forefront in helping such initiatives. “We are always glad to be associated with such activities. It is our duty to help and the club will also be giving its donation to Puttinu Cares. We are also urging our members to buy tickets for Sunday’s buffet. These can be bought at the club in Fleur-de-Lys or at BetKlass.com of St Venera,” he said.
Mario Saliba, representing One TV, Stephen Azzopardi, Education 22 and Robert Cutajar, Net TV, all spoke in favour of the activity. The three stations, especially Education 22, will be teaming up to screen the event as much as possible to induce people to offer donations.
These can be made via telephone on Nos 50049543 (Lm3) or 50049545 (Lm5) or via SMS on 50617361 (Lm1), 50618913 (Lm3) or 50619215 (Lm5).
Rennie Zerafa, on behalf of the organisers, said that income from the event will go towards the payment of travelling and accommodation for the youngsters needing treatment abroad.
