It was revealed yesterday that the Melita Digital Football Awards will be held at the Corinthia Palace in Attard on 9 June.
Sandro Micallef, chairperson of the organising committee, told a crowded news conference that there will be 20 awards this year, which constituted a record.
The awards to be presented in this sixth contest, will be in the following categories:
Best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder, best striker, most promising youngster, best coach, best foreign player, best Maltese player, best goal of the season, best player in the women’s league, best Futsal player (first division), best GFA Onvol player (first division), best veteran (over 36 years), best first division player, best support according to the public (through SMS) and career awards.
This year’s event is being sponsored by Bank of Valletta, Strand Electronics, Malta Tourism Authority, Muscat Motors and IFA International. Other companies supporting the event are Melita Digital, Vodafone, Powerade, AV Plus, TeamSport, XFM radio, Maltese Council for Sport and the Corinthia Palace Hotel.
Events Services will be organising the event.
Those eligible to vote will be the 10 Premier club presidents, coaches and captains as well as 30 journalists who follow Maltese football regularly.
Particular awards will be presented to the MFA and the GFA as well as the Youth FA because of anniversaries and successes during this year. These awards will be announced next month.
For the second consecutive time, the awards night will be transmitted live on Melita Sports as well as on the Information Channel. It will also be transmitted the next day on Education Channel 22 at 8.30pm.
The evening will be compered by Mario Micallef and Catherine Xuereb.
No tickets will be issued for the finals evening. Those present among the audience will be invited specifically to attend the event.
