Malta Independent Friday, 20 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Hundreds of students and their teachers were involved in an Easter celebration activity which brought together all the students, teachers and staff of the Cottonera College to celebrate Mass at the Cottonera Sport Complex.

The activity started with the majority of students walking towards the Cottonera Sport Complex in procession from their respective schools. The main procession left from Lorenzo Gafa Boys Secondary School and was led by the Boy Scouts and altar boys/girls in the schools. Students from Lorenzo Gafa Boys Secondary School carried the statue of the Risen Christ. The other students joined the procession along the way.

Filled to the brim, the Cottonera Sport Complex hosted all the students who attended Mass, which was concelebrated by the parish priests of the localities served by the college. Staff members and students have worked together to organise the event, which was the first time that all the students and school staff of the college were meeting in the same venue.

The Cottonera schools have now been working together as a college since the beginning of the scholastic year commencing September 2005. Teamwork among staff working in the different schools has further enhanced students’ learning. It has also raised staff morale, and they have benefited from this collaborative experience. For the occasion local councils as well as school councils sent representatives to participate in this celebration.

The Minister of Education, Youth and Employment, Dr Louis Galea together with Education Division officials attended the event. The Cottonera college includes the Primary Schools of Cospicua, Kalkara, Senglea, Vittoriosa, Xghajra, Zabbar A and B, Erin Serracino Inglott Girls Secondary, Lorenzo Gafa Boys’ Secondary and Guzeppi Despott (Verdala) Junior Lyceum.
