The Malta Labour Party welcomed the government’s decision to take up an MLP suggestion for a parliamentary debate on a bill on voluntary organisations to be postponed until a discussion on the matter is held with NGOs, the MLP spokesman for social solidarity, Marie-Louise Coleiro-Preca said yesterday.

The discussion will be held in the House of Representatives’ social affairs committee.

In a statement, Dr Coleiro-Preca said NGOs were of great support to Maltese society and it was imperative that a law to regulate them allowed their independence and integrity to be safeguarded.
