Tonio Fenech, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance is in Berlin where he is attending the Informal ECOFIN Council meeting being held today and tomorrow.
The ECOFIN Ministers are expected to examine the extent to which fiscal and economic policy can have an activating effect and can build “social bridges” to better employment prospects and social inclusion.
They will also discuss ways and means of improving the quality of public finances.
Tomorrow the ministers will meet again to discuss effective means of combating VAT fraud. This will be followed by a discussion on financial markets in the context of financial market stability and hedge funds.
The Parliamentary Secretary will be accompanied by Alfred Camilleri, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Michael Bonello, Governor of the Central Bank of Malta and Alan Caruana, Head of Secretariat.
