The feast of St Joseph the Worker on 1 May this year will be observed by the Church under the theme “My father worketh until now, and I work” (John 5, 17). The pastoral section in the World of Work said two quotations were being proposed for reflection, one by Blessed Gorg Preca, the other by Archbishop Mgr Pawl Cremona, OP.
Blessed Preca’s quote is: “Work makes man better, makes him virtuous, enriches him with heaven’s merits. Those who work practise humility and obedience, because they are doing the will of God.”
Mgr Cremona’s quote is: “The Church believes that reflection needs to have as a starting point every person’s dignity, which in the eyes of believers is a dignity that transcends them because it is based on the belief that one day they will believe they are images of God.”
To mark the feast, Mgr Cremona will be having various meetings with workers. On Thursday at 9am, the Archbishop will talk with the workers at Media Centre and Radju RTK in Blata l-Bajda. At 10.30am he will meet workers at the Finance Ministry in Floriana.
On Friday at 10am, the Archbishop will meet the employees at the Ministry of Education in Floriana; and at noon the members of the prayer group It-Triq, made up of government employees. At 12.30pm he will celebrate Mass at St Francis church in Valletta, for all workers.
