An irregular immigrant was yesterday jailed for nine months after he was found guilty of trying to escape from the Ta’ Kandja detention centre and of assaulting and slightly injuring two police officers.
Ise Ture, 19, from the Ivory Coast, was found guilty of assaulting and slightly injuring Police Sergeant Judas Taddeo Baldacchino and Police Constable Emanuel Sciberras on 11 July 2006 when he was trying to escape from the detention centre.
Magistrate Giovanni Grixti jailed him for nine months, from which the time he spent in preventive arrest should be deducted.
Police Inspector Sandro Zarb prosecuted.
