The presentation of the kits was held yesterday at the well known outlet in Psaila Street, Birkirkara.

Ms Christina Peresso said that this was the first sponsorship by Eurosport in the game of waterpolo. Eurosport is also promoting a new swimming school that San Giljan ASC are to introduce this summer in football nurseries that are sponsored by the company. The kids will be provided with swimming accessories of the brand Cressi Swimline.

The brands provided to San Giljan ASC are Kappa, Arena and Legea. Club players and members will benefit from discounts when shopping from Eurosport outlets.

Brian Schembri, club president, said the club was in the early stages of a long term project. The foundations were three consecutive second division titles.

He also stressed that the real big step was last year when the club competed with the big guns of the first division. The club’s target this year is to consolidate its place in the first division.

For this purpose the club has engaged the services of Italian Coach Professor Claudio Silvestri with former club captain Ian Azzopardi as his assistant. The club’s average age is 25 years, and this shows the potential of the club’s nursery, he said.

Also present for the occasion were asst. coach Ian Azzopardi and club player Silvio Borg.

Competition starts tomorrow

The competition for the Winter League, sponsored by Wilkinson Sword, gets under way tomorrow morning at the Tal-Qroqq Pool.

In the opening match, Neptunes will be facing Sirens at 10.30am, while in the match that follows, at 11.30am, it will be the turn of San Giljan and Sliema.

The first match – non competitive – was played last Sunday when Neptunes Vodafone beat the national Youths team 22-2. The latter team is only taking part in matches against all participating teams to gain experience.

No points will be awarded to those playing against them.
