The general public is invited to visit the Hal Far Appogg Open Centre on Saturday. Asylum seekers currently residing at the Open Centre will welcome the public with ethnic food and ethnic music from their country of origin, while showing them around the newly-refurbished flatlets for families at the centre.

This project of embellishement of the premises is part of the European Refugee Fund part-financed by the European Commission. This project permitted Agenzija Appogg, the service provider of the Refugee Services, to give a decent environment to families and children accommodated at the Open Centre, including the construction of a playing field, and the refurbishment of living quarters for family nuclei. These premises will be launched during the Open Day.

Through EQUAL, another EU part-funded project, Agenzija Appogg also facilitated the training of a group of asylum seekers, offering them specialised vocational, guided and counselling interventions to facilitate integration into society and its labour market.

A certificate of achievement will be presented on the day to 35 asylum seekers who successfully completed their profile, which they can now use to better their employability chances.

Admission for this Open Day is free of charge, as is the ethnic food which the public will be invited to sample. Opening hours are 9.30am to 1pm.

Transport will be provided from Valletta to Hal Far at 10am from near the Phoenicia Hotel, and returning to Valletta at 12.30pm. Those using public transport can take bus number 13 from Valletta to Hal Far.

The Open Centre is situated next to the Employment & Training Corporation premises in Hal Far.
