I refer to the feature by David Lindsay entitled Nadur farmers alarmed as cemetery plans appear to be going ahead (TMIS, 25 March) which reported the appeal of 450 farmers to the Gozo Bishop against the new cemetery in Nadur.

I would have liked to have been another opponent and joined the farmers, who have also petitioned the Malta Diocese Environment Commission and the newly elected Bishop of Malta, pleading for the church authorities not to destroy the beautiful countryside on the way to Ramla l-Hamra.

Blessed are those who care for future generations and are not blinded by greed and speculation. I wonder why the authorities are quite happy to approve the speculation of another cemetery in Nadur without a proper environment impact assessment (EIA) and a proper consultation meeting with all parties. It is amazing that, instead of extending the existing cemetery, the parish prefers to develop the adjacent land into stores where festa ornaments are kept, and a number of garages, which it has sold. Money talk, money walk – not only in politics.
