Qormi beat Naxxar Lions 3-0, to hammer the last nail in the Lions' coffin, as Naxxar were yesterday relegated to Division Two.

It was a one way traffic affair with Qormi completely dominating the match for the whole ninety minutes. Naxxar only had some good flashes, especially through Anizoba who was his side's most dangerous player.

Naxxar's dismal season continued yesterday as the Lions lost their last hopes of an almost impossible recovery. The yellows on their part grabbed three further points to keep their slim hopes alive.

Qormi's show started on eight minutes with striker Michael Borg Olivier heading home a good Joseph Chetcuti cross from the right. Naxxar made an immediate reaction with Anizoba creating havoc in the Qormi defence but his shot went slightly wide.

On 12 minutes Qormi's powerful striker Johann Zammit shot wide following a Paris cross. Two minutes later Naxxar had their best chance to equalise when Anizoba made his way inside the area and passed to Glenn Magri who shot wide with an open goal at his mercy.

Qormi continued to dominate and missed some easy scoring chances through Paris, Borg Olivier and Zammit.

On the resumption Qormi doubled the score when from a Kurt Zammit cross, Borg Olivier headed down towards Johann Zammit whose powerful drive found the back of the net.

The Lions threw in the towel and Qormi were now in full command, turning the match in a training spin. On 63 minutes Qormi obtained a penalty when Thomas Paris was floored by Justin Zammit, but from the resultant penalty, the same Paris failed to beat the Naxxar goalkeeper Mercieca.

After missing more scoring chances, Qormi scored the third and final goal a minute before the final whistle, when Thomas Paris made amends for his penalty miss when he made full use of a Paul Cumbo defensive blunder, to score Qormi's third and final goal.
