An agreement which widely improves Malta’s air links with Germany comes into force this month when Air Malta and Lufthansa will be strengthening their commercial partnership with the extension of a code-share agreement on the Malta-Bremen, Malta-Hanover and Malta-Dresden routes. This translates into Malta being connected to these German cities with a twice-daily service and via Frankfurt and Munich hubs. Berlin and Dusseldorf are also connected with a daily service via Munich.

The initial code-share agreement, which was signed on 27 November 2006 allowed both carriers to code-share on their respective schedule services from Frankfurt and Munich. Since then, the agreement has expanded beyond Frankfurt and Munich.

A joint code-share allows the airlines to use their own flight numbers also on flights operated by the partner airline, and offer connecting flights beyond the hubs with own flight numbers. It offers the airlines’ passengers full service treatment, seamless travel arrangements and connections to a global network which falls perfectly into Air Malta’s strategic plans to tap into new emerging markets.

Air Malta has operated to Germany since its launch in 1974. Currently the summer programme of flights to Germany by Air Malta includes eight weekly flights to Munich, seven weekly flights to Frankfurt, five weekly flights to Düsseldorf and three weekly flights to Berlin.
