The investment that is being made in Lufthansa Technik is a result of the government’s commitment towards education and industry in a bid to create more work, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday when he visited the company as part of the Nationalist Party’s activities to mark Worker’s Day.

The company will soon be employing a total of 770 workers, up from the 160 employees on the company’s books today.

Dr Gonzi said the government was annually investing heavily in the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology to enable more young people to be trained in skills which would enable them to take up opportunities offered to them. Without MCAST, Lufthansa Technik would not have come to Malta, Dr Gonzi said.

He added that the creation of 6,100 new jobs in a year, a record foreign investment of Lm575 million during 2006 and the e55 million to be invested by Lufthansa Technik all came about as a result of the government’s policies.
