Foreign Minister Michael Frendo had a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, when he was in Luxembourg for the General Affairs and External Relations Council on 23 April.
The issue of ratification of the double taxation agreement was raised by Dr Frendo, with Mr Lavrov replying that he would seek an early conclusion to the ratification process by the Russian side.
Dr Frendo also referred to the need to expand the Maltese Embassy’s premises for its diplomatic activity, particularly its consulate, particularly in view of the opportunity to increase tourism from Russia as a result of the coming into force of the Visa Facilitation Agreement with the EU on 1 June.
Regarding relations with the Arab world, Mr Lavrov responded positively to Malta’s initiative for a more structured relationship between the EU and the Arab League as a way of supporting moderate governments in the region.
The ministers exchanged views on recent developments in Kosovo.
