Table-football: Massimo Cremona Wins prestigious points

The FISTF Satellite tournament took place with the participation of a total of 29 players playing in four categories. The Open was won by Hamrun’s veteran Patrick Pace, who saw off Palermo’s Jean Carl Tabone on shots. In the semi-finals Pace beat Josef Camilleri of CCT Siracusa while Tabone beat Mario Camilleri.

The U-19 was won by Syracuse’s 18 year-old Mauro Camilleri, who narrowly beat 15 year-old Timothy Spiteri. In the semi-finals Camilleri beat Andrew Abela while Spiteri eliminated Daniel Pule.

The U-15 proved to be very competitive in which many players could have gone home with the silverware, but finally it was Hamrun’s 13-year-old Adam Gatt who won.

The final, between Gatt and 11 year-old Matthew Pace went to Gatt’s side with a late winner. The semi-finalists were Darren Bezzina and Angelo Borg who all gained points for the rankings.

The Veterans competition was won by Hamrun’s Natalino Tanti who defeated Valletta’s Joe Zammit Pavia.

On the other hand, the International Open took place with the participation of 39 players playing in four categories. It was won by Perugia’s Massimo Cremona who defeated Atlas Glyfada’s Mark Gauci in the final.

In the semi-finals, Cremona eliminated Catania’s Charles Aquilina while Gauci eliminated his team-mate, Joseph Mifsud. Some top-class players were eliminated in the barrage stage including Hansel Mallia and Samuel Bartolo while Roma’s Derek Conti was eliminated straight away in the competition’s toughest group which featured Joseph Mifsud, Joseph Borg Bonaci and Conti.

The U-19 was yet again won by Mauro Camilleri with Timothy Spiteri finishing right behind him in second place and Dane Xuereb of Hamrun TFC finishing third.

The U-15 competition was won by Hamrun’s 13 year-old Brandon Farrugia who defeated the highly-rated Andrew Abela of Valletta SC, on shots in a very competitive.

The Veteran’s competition was won by Patrick Pace while his team-mate, Natalino Tanti, finished in second place. Joseph Zammit Pavia, of Valletta SC finished in third place, just ahead of Hamrun's Stephen Grima.
