Heritage Malta is hosting internationally renowned scholar Sergio Benedetti who is delivering a lecture on the Italian-born artist Caravaggio.

Sergio Benedetti is Head Curator and Keeper of the Collection at the National Gallery of Ireland. He was born in Florence and graduated in Rome, in 1964, in History of Art and Conservation. A leading scholar on Caravaggio and Baroque Art he is also an expert of Italian Renaissance and the age of the Grand Tour.

Among his more important contributions is the discovery of the Taking of Christ by Caravaggio and the recovery of the long thought lost statue of an Amorino by Canova.

Admission to the lecture is free, however those interested in attending are requested to collect a complimentary ticket from the National Museum of Fine Arts, South Street, Valletta (telephone 2122-5769) or from Heritage Malta’s head office in Merchants Street, Valletta (telephone 2295-4312). Tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

The lecture, entitled The Age of Caravaggio, will be held at the National Museum of Fine Arts, South Street, Valletta on 9 May at 7pm, and is sponsored by the Farsons Foundation.
