Franklin Barbara has been appointed general secretary of the Malta Union of Teachers and will take up his post on 1 June, the MUT said yesterday.

Mr Barbara was educated at Zurrieq primary school and the Liceo Vassalli, Tal-Handaq. He attended St Edward’s Sixth Form and graduated in psychology, education and sociology from the University of Malta. He has taught at Dun Guzepp Zammit Lyceum in Hamrun and the Giovanni Curmi higher secondary school in Naxxar.

Mr Barbara has served on the MUT council in various posts.
