‘Delizzju Tal-familja’

Malta Independent Saturday, 28 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Hermann Bonaci Productions is staging the comedy Delizzju tal-Familja at the Catholic Institute Theatre. The farce originally written by Ray Cooney has been translated into Maltese by Lino Grech.

The storyline takes us just three days before Christmas. At the Mater Dei Hospital, David Cassar is composing the speech he will give to a distinguished gathering of neurologists, a speech that may well make or break his career. All our doctor needs is a little peace and quiet to finish it…

Unfortunately for our hero, peace and quiet are in very short supply. A nurse with whom he had an affair 18 years and 9 months ago turns up to confront him with the fact that he is the father of her son, who is now 18.

Not only that, but the said son is now downstairs in the hospital and is desperate to meet the dad he has never seen.

How on earth can Dr Cassar keep this catastrophic news from his wife and the hospital authorities, and still deliver his speech?

The cast includes several popular actors and actresses, namely Fabian Scerri de Carlo, Frida Cauchi, Hermann Bonaci, Ray Abdilla, Josette Ellul, Leontine Spiteri, Franklyn Farrugia, Pawlu Caruana, Joe Gatt, Christabelle Curmi, Mary Rose Bonello and Joe Izzo.

Delizzju tal-Familja, directed by Simon Curmi, will be performed at the Catholic Institute Theatre today and twice tomorrow.
