APS Bank and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment have again launched the Youth Specialisation Studies Scheme (YSSS).

Provided that their chosen academic course is not offered in Malta, youths aged between 18 and 30 are being given the opportunity to apply for a student loan at a subsidised rate of interest with a view to enable them to further their studies abroad or to follow an academic course by distance learning.

All those interested in applying for a similar loan which could be from Lm4,000 (e9,317.49) and Lm10,000 (e23,293.73) repayable over a maximum term of 10 years are encouraged to do so within the time frame indicated. Preference will be given to students wishing to pursue studies in the following areas – medicine, biotechnology, pharmacology, motor vehicle engineering, electronics, telecommunications, information and communication technology.

The facility includes a maximum moratorium period of five years on capital repayments depending on the duration of the academic course being followed.

Application forms are available from APS Bank branches or the Youth Section of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment. Applications are to be submitted by hand together with the required documentation to The Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment – Youth Section, Great Siege Road, Floriana by Friday 8 June till 4.30pm
