Sliema cruised to a comfortable victory over the young ASA Youths side.
The Blues should be commended for choosing to field the second string in the initial phases of the match so that these players get the much needed game experience which could, if the need arises, prove valuable in the latter stages of the season.
The Youths had a good start as they quickly went 2-0 ahead through goals from Sliema products Jerome Spiteri Staines and Miguel Manara. Even though Sliema replied with a Mark Meli brace, the Youths still ended the first session 3-2 ahead.
The game went clearly Sliema’s way from the second session onwards after stand-in coach Peter Decesare introduced his experienced players.
Sliema quickly overturned the score in their favour and went on to progressively increase the score.
John Soler finished the match with a personal goal tally identical to his cap number 6, even though he also missed a penalty in the second half of the game.
