The 31st European Gold Cup will be held in Paphos, Cyprus, between 7 and 12 May, and Malta will be represented by Josephine Borg and Justin Caruana Scicluna.
No fewer than 25 European nations will be represented in the championships, in which all bowlers will compete in a Singles event comprising separate male and female divisions, as well as a Mixed Doubles competition.
The scores accumulated will then decide the qualifying classifications for the second stage which will see the field take down to the top sixteen males and females, followed by a second cut to the top eight.
The divisions will then go to the top four of each in the penultimate stage, followed by the Grand Finals between the top two male and female bowlers.
Malta has had varied levels of success in past editions of the Gold Cup, most recently the first ever Maltese male champion’s title for Philippe Vancell in 2006.
This year’s representatives, Borg and Caruana Scicluna, were selected on merit, having won their respective divisions in the national Gold Cup championships organised by the Malta Tenpin Bowling Association at the Eden SuperBowl recently.
