The Education and Sports Department of the Ministry of Education is holding a special event today at the Cottonera Sports Complex marking the 50th anniversary of the Rome Treaty which set up the European Union.
Eurosport of Birkirkara are providing more than 400 T-shirts and other equipment including a good number of balls to be used during the event.
Disciplines to be practised will be basketball, handball, rugby, volleyball and football.
Addressing a news conference at the Eurosport outlet in Psaila Street, Birkirkara, Ms Christina Peresso, director of Eurosport, said the company was glad to be sponsoring this event, helping the children and their teachers by providing them with the vests and the balls.
Ms Louise Cutajar Davies, Education officer, said that some pupils from all government schools have been invited to take part in the event together with their respective Physical Education teachers.
Euchar Camilleri, manager of the Cottonera Sports Complex, explained the format of the event during which those present will be shown four stages of how each disciplined is played.
He said the event follows the recent sports festival organised in collaboration with several associations which had been a huge success because of the participation of more than 15,000 students.
The event starts at 9.30am, but is not open to the public, due to the limited capacity of the arena.
