WasteServ yesterday reported another strong response to its sponsored campaign with schoolchildren as waste patrollers, as a large number of schoolchildren in Year Five, from Marsascala Primary School, accompanied by the school head, teachers and several mothers visited the Bring-in-Site (BIS) situated a few metres away.

Laden with plastic bottles, bits of paper and metal cans, the children properly disposed of the recyclable materials at the BIS. Some of them also made the effort of taking along empty snack packets and milk cartons, to demonstrate to those present that the proper way of disposing of such items was not in the white, blue, black or brown bins but in the green skips which, in the case of the Marsascala BIS, are conveniently situated right next to the BIS.

The children were guided by Mariella Grixti from Medecology who, along with with her colleagues, visits and gives informative talks to schoolchildren.

Jimmy and Ivan, who are responsible for driving the collection trucks and emptying the bins, were also there. They waited for the children to finish and then demonstrated the collection and emptying of two of the bins – one containing plastic and the other paper – into two separate trucks.
