Ray Bondin, coordinator of the rehabilitation projects at Mdina, Valletta and Cottonera, said the authorities should see how best to organise the sector involving historical heritage.

There were too many authorities and different groups involved in protecting this heritage, he said, and it was important to use these people in the best manner possible, because there were those among them who were not being used properly.

Mr Bondin was speaking at a consultation meeting with representatives of the Labour Party, and said that the party’s vision about the historical environment looked positively and organisationally at the future.

The Labour Party said more positive reactions to the party statement had been made at meetings with the Malta Tourism Authority, the Kamra tal-Periti, and the Association of Local Councils.

The Labour Party representatives were party leader Alfred Sant, the two deputy leaders, Charles Mangion and Michael Falzon, and the party’s spokesman on the environment and national heritage, Roderick Galdes.

The Labour leader also met representatives of the Maltese-Chinese Friendship Society yesterday.
