Treaty Of Rome remembered

Malta Independent Saturday, 5 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Foreign Minister Michael Frendo took part in a rally for schoolchildren yesterday that was held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, which established the European Coal and Steel Community – the forerunner of what is today known as the European Union.

He told those present that the EU was a dream shared by a number of politicians soon after the end of World War II, and it had led to 50 years of peace in Europe. Today, Malta was part of this reality, and this opened up new opportunities for children and young people.

The rally included the participation of the Alison Ellul Dance Studio ,while students from different schools took part in sport displays.
