Malta Independent Sunday, 6 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Gozo will be hosting the annual workshop of language school network International House World Organisation from 10 to 12 May, after local language school IH Malta-Gozo was unanimously selected amid stiff competition as its 2007 venue.

The workshop brings together directors of IH study abroad language schools and travel agents from across the globe involved in promoting language teaching for the renowned language school network.

It provides excellent exposure both for IH Malta-Gozo as a school and for Gozo itself. Corinne Xuereb, director of IH Malta-Gozo, who has been running language schools in Gozo since 1997, says the demand from school directors and agents to attend the workshop has been overwhelming.

IH Malta-Gozo, a small school of English in the picturesque village of Gharb that caters for a niche market of select clients, was set up in 2000 It has been an affiliate of International House since 2001, a guarantee for discerning clients as it meets excellent standards both academically and as a workplace for its staff. Affiliation also brings automatic access for the school to the huge IH world market, and indirectly to Gozo as a tourist destination.

International House World Organisation was set up in 1953 and currently boasts 140 schools in 46 countries across every continent. Each school is independently owned and managed but is affiliated to IHWO. This means that the school becomes part of the IHWO network and agrees to adhere to the rigorous quality management systems of IHWO.

Directors from about 30 IH schools along with their agents are expected to attend the workshop in Gozo to pool their client data base and expertise.

The stint will be rounded off with a short stop in Malta to visit the IH Malta junior centre and the brand new adult centre in Swieqi The latter was opened to satisfy the young adult market that wished to combine quality courses with a holiday

experience.
