Recently, at the La Grotta nightclub in Xlendi, Gozo, hundreds of

people were invited to a birthday party thrown by Delicata, to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The winemaking company which was established by Eduardo Delicata in 1907, and named after his son Emmanuel Delicata is now in its fourth generation, and

has become Malta’s largest wine producer. One of many activities to celebrate its centenary was this thank-you party for all its valued clients in Gozo.

“Our wines have a good representation in Gozo and this could not have been achieved without the support and loyalty of our Gozitan clients,” Mr Delicata said. “Our clients have become our friends and together everyone can benefit from the quality of both Gozo- and Malta-grown wines. Even our viticultural ties in Gozo are very strong – out of the 1 million kilos of local grapes pressed, 200,000 kilos were grown in Gozo.”

Towards the end of the party which went on until the early hours of the morning, a celebratory cake with 100 candles was carried out and cut, but not before the candles were blown out by the Delicata family members – George (managing director and winemaker) and his two sons, Mario and Michael.

Finally Mr Delicata reminded everyone that this year will be the fifth anniversary of the Delicata Wine Festival in Nadur which will be held between 31 August and 2 September, and new this year, as part of the Notte Gozitana, Delicata will be holding a one-day wine festival in Victoria on Friday 18 May to help raise funds for the Arka Foundation.
