Valletta Parking

Malta Independent Tuesday, 8 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The new traffic management system in Valletta will serve to increase business in the capital city, or so it is said.

I have my doubts about this, because I believe that the parking tariffs introduced are way too expensive.

The first half hour is free, but after that the charges imposed rise quickly. Do the authorities believe people spend less than half-an-hour shopping? Of course they spend more time there.

Secondly, I do not think that enough parking spaces have been allocated to people who are not Valletta residents. I understand that people who live in the capital city have the right to find a parking space close to their home, like everybody else but, on the other hand, I still think that there should be more parking available for the rest of the public.

The park and ride system is effective, but even here the number of parking spots is limited.

I believe that the government should have planned this new management system much better.
