Valletta Traffic management

Malta Independent Wednesday, 9 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

I do not understand the fuss that is being made on the new traffic management system in Valletta. I believe that it is yet another case of conservative Malta finding fault with any changes that are made to make things better.

I think that it is much better to have such a system.

In the past, a small percentage of people used to have the “V” driving licence to be able to enter Valletta whenever they wanted. They used to pay for it too. The rest of the driving population was “forced” to park outside the city each time they wanted to go there, and therefore many of them opted out. Some of them chose to take risks at times and this resulted in them being fined when they were caught.

Today, everyone can enter the capital city – and this will be of great benefit to the many restaurants that can be found there. Added to this, those who occasionally go to the Manoel Theatre or the Mediterranean Conference Centre will not have to worry about taking a long walk from Floriana – as now they can park close to the two places mentioned.

I believe that in a few months’ time, we will get used to the system and we will no longer talk about it. It is just a matter of taking time to adjust to a new concept.

Just another case of Maltese gemgem (complaint).
