It was all one way traffic last Saturday in the so much awaited clash of the titans between Aloysians and La Salle, with the latter offering poor opposition in a decisive match in which the league title for 2006/7 was at stake.
Aloysians, led by the unstoppable Brenda Camilleri who netted half of the goal for her side, clinched the league title for the second consecutive year.
The first half did not offer so much excitement as Aloysians took the lead from the early stages of the game. On the other hand La Salle showed lack of confidence and they failed to take the initiative to reduce the goal difference that was increasing as time went by.
In the second half, La Salle decided that they had nothing to lose, as they changed the defence formation adopted in the first half into a more aggressive one by marking two of Aloysians’ back players.
Nonetheless, La Salle failed to change the situation. In the 16th minute a time-out called by coach Andrew Said proved to be useful as La Salle managed to ease the pain by decreasing the goal difference to five.
Milos Stanislaveic, seeing that his side was loosing ground adopted Said’s strategy and managed to spur the team till the final stages of the match with the final result of 22-14.
