Anton L. Tabone has been elected president of the American Chamber of Commerce, Malta (AmCham, Malta), succeeding Mark Miceli Farrugia, who was recently appointed Malta’s ambassador to the United States of America.

Addressing the chamber for the first time as president, Dr Tabone said he was committed to enhancing relations with various bodies in the US in order to continue to facilitate closer business and trade relationships between Malta and the United States.

Dr Tabone also outlined a series of priorities on which AmCham, Malta will be working over the coming months. These include a series of seminars on subjects related to commerce and financial services, which will see the participation of high-profile guest speakers from America. Dr Tabone also stressed the importance of maintaining close collaboration with the US embassy in Malta, in particular with its Commercial Division. Other priorities include the re-launching of the chamber’s current website and embarking on a membership drive.

Dr Tabone became a member of AmCham, Malta in 2005. He is a lawyer and former diplomat, having served in Malta’s permanent mission to the United Nations in New York and as consul of Malta to the Maltese community in the States of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.
