The annual Scoops Fair is being held tomorrow in Great Siege Square, Valletta opposite the Law Courts, from 10am to 6pm. Scoops is an educational project owned by the Cooperatives Board and its main sponsor is HSBC. The project offers secondary level students the opportunity to discover how to run their own business based on the cooperative model. The project is taken up by schools on a voluntary basis and introduces students aged 12-15 to the world of employment and cooperative principles.

Keen Scoops members are exhibiting an assortment of products at the fair, sponsored by the Central Cooperatives Fund. This event is also a great opportunity for students to practise their sales and social skills. This year the fair will be organised outdoors in order to attract more passing trade and showcase young talents and skills.

During the fair, HSBC will be presenting its annual sponsorship to the project’s implementers and members of the National Scoops Committee. A show will be staged at 1pm with the band from Guardian Angel school performing a selection of musical numbers to uplift the hearts of all those attending.

Throughout the scholastic year, students and educators participating in the Scoops Project explored themes related to operating a business based on the cooperative model. This came about through events such as the interactive training session for teachers, the annual Scoops conference Vetrina Scoops 2007 and visits to local cooperatives. The Scoops Fair is the final activity to conclude the 12th year of the project.
