It is not usual for editors to publish letters about sport debates, so I do not know whether you will actually publish this.

Let me put matters in perspective right from the start. I am a Juventus supporter and am

currently waiting for my favourite team to achieve promotion from the Serie B, following the forced demotion last season after events that everybody knows about.

I am also currently following the ongoing debate between the Milan and Inter clubs as to which competition is the most important – is it the Champions League, or is it the domestic league?

Inter are saying that the domestic league is harder to win. Milan, on the other hand, are saying that the Champions League carries more weight. I tend to favour the Milan position on the subject.

Juventus have won the Champions League only twice, but I think that those two wins are worth much more than the 27 leagues (or should they be 29?) that they won in Italy.

The Champions League is far more fascinating and far more difficult to win, because there teams encounter the best there is in Europe. Maybe the opening rounds are not that difficult, but the competition gets tougher and tougher from the last 16 stage.

I believe that Inter’s stand is only a question of sour grapes, just because they have been unable to reach the European Cup final for 35 years and won the cup for the last time more than four decades ago.

Four years ago, when Juventus qualified for the final against Milan and eventually lost, I was more proud of my team than when it won the league. Inter will probably say different things if they manage to reach the Champions League final next year.
