The team from Stella Maris College clinched the fourth tournament of the British Airways Youth League 2006-07 beating Naxxar Boys Secondary by 78 points to 63. Naxxar Boys Secondary Wrestling Team is none other than Furtu Selvatico Wrestling Team. It was just a change in name.

A young wrestler who caught the eye in the boys’ division was Edward Zingariello of Stella Maris. Although very young, he looked confident and performed a number of beautiful throws and holds, easily winning the Cadet III 46kg.

Adam Vella, of the same team, was again stretched to his maximum by Andrea Saliba of Naxxar Boys Secondary. At the end of their bout, both scored four points but victory was awarded to the former as he scored the last point to clinch first place in the Cadets I 76kg. Both are preparing under national coach Jesmond Giordemaina to take part in the Kruibeke Youth Wrestling tournament in Belgium.

Matthew Bonnici (Stella Maris College) and Jonathan Gatt (Naxxar Boys Secondary), both also preparing for the Kruibeke tournament, easily won their categories, the former the Cadets I 58kg and the latter the Cadets II 73kg. Aidan Buhagiar also of Stella Maris and another in his final training for Kruibeke was totally superior to his opponents in the Juniors 96kg.

Cadets III 47kg: Damien Buhagiar (Stella Maris College)

Cadets III 46kg: Edward Zingariello (Stella Maris College)

Cadets IV 32kg: Gary Giordemaina (Naxxar Boys Secondary)

The tournament was controlled by Abraham Vassallo, Alfred Ellul Mercer, Tony Darmanin, Manuel Cilia and Jesmond Giordemaina while federation president Simon A. Bonello was coordinator.
