The Diocesan Family Commission said family studies should be included among the basic subjects at kindergarten, primary and secondary levels of education and a syllabus could be developed on the subject which would enable an examination to be held both at ordinary and advanced levels of matriculation.

In a message to mark Family Day 2007, the commission said that for the past months, it had been working on a package for teachers on “The Family: Challenges and Commitment”. The package included not only a presentation about the ever-increasing challenges families faced today, and the values which made a family strong, but also points for discussing family life.

The commission urged teachers to continue passing on to their students the natural values of the family and instil in them a generous commitment for the family because, as Familiaris Consortio said, “the future of humankind depends on the family.”
