Suspended Sentence for fraud

A Mosta man was yesterday given a suspended jail term for throwing paint all over a car and assisting someone in committing car insurance fraud.

Godfrey Scicluna, 39, pleaded guilty to being an accomplice to fraud, by reporting a car stolen to an insurance firm and the police on 1 March and before. He also pleaded guilty to damaging a vehicle belonging to Maria Concetta Beckson.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Anthony Vella took into account the accused’s guilty plea and the fact that he cooperated with police. He was therefore jailed for 18 months suspended for two years.

Police Inspector Marisa Camilleri prosecuted while Dr Gavin Gulia appeared for the accused.
