For the past four years, the work carried out in Valletta and Floriana focused on the renovation of public gardens, churches, chapels, monuments and bastions that are synonymous with the area, Resources and Infrastructure minister Ninu Zammit said yesterday while visiting the Mall Gardens in Floriana, which are undergoing embellishment works.

He said the work in this zone would be sustained in order to achieve high standards.

The minister said the project started at the beginning of this year and was expected to be completed in a few weeks’ time, when the boundary wall would be fully repaired and the decorative railing and new lighting system would be installed.

Minister Zammit added that the garden would also have a water storage facility.

The 600m-long railing was made by the workers stationed at the government garage, where 90 wooden benches and 50 refuse bins where also manufactured.

Minister Zammit said this garden, along with the work on the Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens and the Hastings Garden involves an expenditure of over Lm700,000 (e1,630,561).

He announced also that an outdoor sports complex and a public garden would be built in Zurrieq in the near future.

The complex will include a football pitch, a multi-purpose pitch, a gymnasium, sports facilities and a garden.
