Marsa notched their second win of the season, following that of last week over St George’s, as they surprised Floriana in yesterday evening’s first match.
However, it provided little, if any, satisfaction because the match had no particular interest with the relegation issue having been decided some days ago.
With nothing at stake, the two teams played some open football with Floriana enjoying the lion’s share of the proceedings, though, to be fair, Marsa, who were making their last appearance in the Premier this season, also provided the few spectators present with some clever touches.
Marsa’s only satisfaction must have been the fact that they managed to avoid bottom place, thanks to their two wins in their last two matches.
Floriana dictated play for most of the time, but it was only on the 29th minute, that they registered their first shot at goal – a Cilia effort being saved by Spiteri.
Marsa replied with a feeble effort from Warren Chircop on 35 minutes. Camilleri saved with ease.
Floriana threatened through a long distance shot from Psaila on 38 minutes, but Spiteri managed to partially save the ball which was then cleared away.
At the start of the second half, Manolito Micallef missed a sitter for the Greens hitting well over the bar.
At the other end, Zammit tried to lob over Camilleri, but the goalie saved.
Marsa surprisingly opened the scoring on 71 minutes through an Emil Yanchev header off a Scerri freekick.
Six minutes later, it was Camilleri who denied Achokwu a second goal, turning his shot to corner in style.
