Malta Independent Sunday, 13 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Last weekend, players of Gilly’s Tennis School took part in a tennis tournament held in Comino, organised for the third consecutive year by their qualified coach Gillian Galea. Over 200 people attended, of which 100 youngsters aged between seven and 17 participated in a team tournament. Emma Galea’s team came first. Matthew Booker, Nathan Bonello and Andrew Ellul were the other captains.

Events like this motivate the players and teach them how to compete and have fun at the same time.

The event was sponsored by Danone and supported by Urban Jungle and Wilson.

Gillian Galea is a qualified Tennis Coach certified Level 2 ITF (International Tennis Federation). She has been coaching full time for three years and runs ‘Gilly’s Tennis School’. After graduating in Communications at the University Of Malta, she spent many years playing tennis and travelling to tournaments abroad.

She is a firm believer in sport education, working as a team and having fun through sporting events and helping youngsters achieve their highest potential.

The school has organised many events in the past besides the tournament in Comino in 2004 and 2006, which included a marathon in aid of The Daniel Delicata Memorial Association in 2005 and a tournament against a club in Palermo in 2005, among many others.
